Our business

Your role:

  • The macroeconomist position oversees the development and distribution of the full set of economic assumptions used in the Firm’s forecasting processes. Economic assumptions cover key global economic indicators, fixed income markets, equity markets, etc., and accordingly, a broad knowledge base across economics and finance is essential.
  • The position develops scenarios across a range of potential economic backdrops which are distributed firmwide, needed for the MTP process as well as Strategy initiatives. On top, the position establishes a new approach to regularly provide industry trend analysis that supports the Strategy team and the Management (Mega trends, industry trends; e.g. impact of Climate Change, Pandemic/Other Wildcards, Globalization, Digital Transformation, etc.)
  • Pro-actively advise the Head of Market, Competitive & Green Intelligence as well as the management and selected groups in the organization on fiscal issues that helps to advance economically.
  • As a key part of the scenario design, analyze historical trends to independently assess the trajectories of prior economic and financial cycles, and the performance of various asset classes within those cycles
  • Conduct frequently trend studies and trend analysis and follow and understand market trends with the help of external consultancies to get the outside view every other year.
  • Supervise and analyze strategy relevant developments in the Energy Markets and Long-term energy scenarios (primary energy sources, trends, technologies and policy issues)
  • Monitor daily economic releases and events, and stay abreast of trends in energy markets, fixed income markets, equity markets etc. and anticipate impacts to current economic assumptions and stress scenario design
  • Provision of deep dive analysis and new insight generation on available Long term Energy Scenarios and Commodity Reports from different provider consensus (IEA, World Energy Council, EIA, European Commission (and related stakeholders), Major Oil & Gas Co’s, consultants, Financial Institutions (e.g. World Bank), NGOs etc.
  • Oversee and participate in hands-on review of economic forecasting methodologies, documentation, process, and data to assess conceptual and financial soundness of the implementations, as well as compliance with rules and best practices
  • Lead ad-hoc analysis as needed, e.g. evaluating Firm’s exposure and sensitivity to key macroeconomic variables, and connecting macroeconomic drivers to emerging industry trends.
  • Following and analyzing economic and political developments in key developed and emerging markets economies, assessing vulnerability and making economic forecasts.

Your profile:

  • You have a Master Degree in Engineering Technical or Economics
  • You have minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience, particularly within the financial service industry or the O&G Industry
  • 10 years’ experience in communicating complex topics to internal and external audiences
  • Work experience with international organizations, (central) banks and global investment banks is preferred
  • Knowledge of the chemistry industry is an advantage
  • Advanced statistics and/or data science skills including solid knowledge in statistical programing languages and data bases
  • Hands-on experience with econometric forecasting methods is required, familiarity with macroeconomic and financial market data sources is a pre-requisite
  • Experience with programming languages / statistical software (e.g., EViews, Stata, Python, R) and advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills desired
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented with the ability to synthesize large amounts of data, summarize key concepts and clearly articulate relevant conclusions
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, with the ability to prepare executive level presentations
